Ortisei Mountain Ski Resort (St Ulrich in German, Urtijei in Ladin) is situated in Val Gardena, nothern Italy. The town is located at an altitude of 1236 m in the Dolomites. The Commune of Ortisei stretches on a surface area of 2423 hectares and counts 5635 inhabitants together with Bulla and Oltretorrente villages. The majority of people are Ladins (83%) and the rest are Italian and Germans.
Ortisei has an extensive and modern tourist infrastructure, counting almost 6000 accommodation rooms in hotels, chalets, apartments, etc. There are few hundreds of thousands tourists visiting Ortisei in the summer time but especially in the winter time when the ski season opens.
This small town has a rich history. Ortisei has a very special urban planning, its buildings mixing with the natural environment. Nowadays a famous ski resort, Ortisei was a very old commerce centre in the region. Today, most of the streets of Ortisei still have a lot of shops making it a focal point for the shopping fans in Northern Italy. Ortisei is famous nowadays for its ski and snowboarding pistes and facilities. There are plenty of cable cars and ski lifts which climb al most non-stop during the ski season to the ski slopes of Seceda or Alpe di Siusi.
In Ortisei one can also find handcrafts and wood sculpture workshops and exhibitions rooms. Ladins in Ortisei are proud of their woodcarving and handcraft traditions. You mustn't miss it!
Sports infrastructure here is modern and covers fitness centres, minigolf pitches, swimming pools, tennis courts, pool clubs, etc.
